Original Job Description: Threat Investigator, Child Safety
The Integrity Investigations and Intelligence (i3) team is dedicated to protecting the users of the Meta family of applications (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Oculus) from dangerous organizations and individuals, human trafficking and exploitation, and crimes against children; the worst kinds of threats we experience. We are seeking an experienced Threat Investigator to deeply understand and mitigate how child sexual abuse and exploitation manifest on our family of apps, in addition to investigating complex threats, advancing investigative methods, and using innovative research approaches to prevent harm to children on our platforms.Threat Investigator, Child Safety Responsibilities
- Develop a deep understanding of how bad actors use and target the abuse and exploitation of children on Meta's Family Of Applications and Services (FOAS)
- This role involves exposure to graphic and/or objectionable content including but not limited to graphic images, videos and writings, offensive or derogatory language, and other potential objectionable material, i.e. child exploitation, graphic violence, self-injury, animal abuse, and other content which may be considered offensive or disturbing.
- Investigate complex cases to understand in granular detail how abuse is occurring and attribute the person(s) responsible. Identify enforcement strategies to mitigate harm both in the current case and from similar forward-looking abuse
- Analyze and interpret large datasets to advance investigations, quantify trends or support findings
- Identify effective strategies to prevent or disrupt abuse at scale and consult on mitigations to effect those strategies
- Inform the company’s understanding of previously unidentified threats and trends through the production of strategic and tactical intelligence, and its dissemination to the appropriate audiences
- Proactively identify for currently undetected abuse by leveraging internal data, open-source intelligence and third party private intelligence
- Work on projects with cross functional teams to collaborate on product changes that make the Facebook family of apps safer for children and more difficult for bad actors to exploit
- Prioritize and execute with minimal direction or oversight
- Willingness to learn the concepts behind automated investigative actions in order to best propose mitigation strategies/recommendations based on identified trends.
Minimum Qualifications
- 2+ years investigating, analyzing, assessing risk, or acting on internet crimes against children threats based laws or policies (i.e intelligence, law enforcement, legal analysis, or NGO)
- 2+ years experience viewing graphic and/or objectionable content related to child sexual exploitation and/or human trafficking.
- 2+ years of experience quantifying and qualifying assessments and investigations into clear and concise intelligence and/or recommendations for a larger audience.
- 4+ years total experience in working in the broad field of online safety, trust & safety, digital crimes/abuse field, offender behavior, or victim services.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency with a second language
- BS/MS or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Information Systems, Intelligence Studies, Cybersecurity, Criminal Justice, or related field
- Experience in utilizing SQL, Python, or other programming languages for data manipulation.
